Votes at 16

Personally schools and college are not doing enough to provide Welsh politics as an issue to talk about. As a result of this many young people at the age of 16 don't no enough information. I'm all for voting at 16 but politics needs to be taught in schools first for the young people to get a better understanding on how the Assembly works.

Why the contribution is important

My idea is important for young people to get a better understanding on how Assembly works on a day to day to basis. The schools and colleges should teach the pupils on how our political system works.

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us @TK207309 - do you have a view on how politics and citizenship can be taught in schools in a non-biased way?

Also, what are your thoughts on how a young person who is home schooled or part of the Pupil Referral Unit (a type of school that caters for young people who aren’t able to attend a mainstream school. Pupils are often referred there if they need greater care and support than their school can provide) be taught about political and citizenship education?

In relation to first part of the question how can politics and citizenship be taught in a non bias way? Politics as whole shouldn't be based purely on political parties. Many young people want to learn how decisions are made, how politics can helps us in every day life. These are areas that should be covered.
Citizenship should be taught in a way that everyone is equal, even if someone has moved aboard and claimed citizenship that we are all British citizens contributing to society, and people can live their lives normally.

Regarding home school children, youth clubs could help by providing information on how political life and citizenship works.
Pupil referral unit should be taught by the teachers by showing how political life works, or if the young people don't feel comfortable with this then use the youth clubs for a better environment to teach the young people.
