Positive support for our under 10m long fishing boat industry

The Welsh Assembly should positively support our smaller under 10m fishing boat fleet that have been unfairly disenfranchised since our territorial waters were made common under the 1972 Communities Act.

As soon as Wales exits the European Union the Welsh Assembly should legislate to ban foreign fishing from around the Welsh coastline, except when there is a proven benefit for Wales.  In addition control over Welsh fisheries and marine protection must be devolved to the Welsh Assembly.

Why the contribution is important

We need to actively suppot and revive our local fishing idustry that has been desimated under the EUs Common Fisharies Policy.

Thank you for sharing your idea and comments!

Your ideas and priorities are now being used to help the Committee write its report on how we can develop principles to underpin a new agriculture and rural development policy for Wales. For more information, please do contact me @ celyn.cooper@assembly.wales. I’ll also make sure to update the pages and this thread to keep you updated as this progresses.

Your ideas and priorities have also been a great support for the Committee as it invited representative organisations and bodies to come to the Senedd and give oral evidence on the future of agriculture in Wales.

Of interest, the Committee also shares a similar interest in this field, and has decided to launch a new inquiry into the management of marine protected areas in Wales. If you have an interest in taking part or contributing, please do get in touch with me or indeed visit the webpage at:

Thank you again for all your contributions!
