Wrong use of public money

Public money shouldn't be spent on prisoners who have broken the law. I believe that the money should be invested in preventing crime in the first place rather than improving the lives of prisoners who have already committed a crime. Statistically, prisoners are more likely to come from disadvantaged backgrounds, therefore the money should be invested in developing opportunities in those areas and preventing people from committing crimes.

Why the contribution is important

It's important that we focus on changing our society and making the country a better place. Investing money in this way could reduce the number of prisoners, and improve the lives of people living in disadvantaged areas.

Agree fully regarding prevention of crime needing investment. But would also say that money spent on Prisoners in relation to voting would be minimal and in my view well worth the effort and expense incurred. Again I'm not sure what we have to lose as a society if we allow all prisoners to vote.

Thanks very much for sharing your views with us @bvaughan. If prisoners were given the right to vote in Welsh elections, do you think their right to vote should depend upon the length of their sentence or the type of offence they've committed?

Also, do you think any special considerations should apply to young offenders in custody if the voting age is lowered to 16 and 17 year olds?
