should prisoners be allowed to vote

No!!!! Society is governed by agreed rules for the protection of everyone.  They, by breaking those rules decided they did not want abide by those rules. They therefore cannot expect to have the positive benefits of society.

Why the contribution is important

Theres enough lunatics running the country without letting the lunatics run the assylum as well.

Seriously they are there to be PUNISHED not feted over. If prisons were harder and more spartan, criminals would think “is it worth it?”before commiting crimes. This would deter them from committing crimes, bringing about rehabilitation. Which is what is needed - PUNISHMENT - DETERRENCE - REHABILITATION

As for their civil and human rights they gave those up when they decided the rules did not apply to them.

As for the bleeding hearts let them take these criminaks into their homes and when they (the criminal) offends the bleeding heart is also held responsible and taken to account. See how many of them will agree to that!!!!

As a last idea bring back Hard Labiur and charge the prisoners for food, accommodation, power, clothing etc.

Thanks very much for sharing your views with us @Grundlewood - do you think the right to vote should depend on the length or sentence or type of offence committed? Or do you think all prisoners should be denied the vote, regardless.

Also, do you have a view on whether any special considerations should apply to young offenders in custody if the voting age is lowered to 16 and 17 years olds?
