KIT days should be KIT hours

New mums should be able to work a few hours here and there whilst on maternity leave, ideally unlimited (ie not limited to 10 days). This is because: physically working more than 4/5 hours takes its toll on your baby and your body, especially if breastfeeding. If you could go in to work for 2 or 3 hours at a time (eg per week), that would help a woman contribute, potentially help her return to more hours in the long run etc. Most women are able to contribute anywhere from couple of months after the birth of their baby. They are unable to do so in the current system. There’s a lot of untapped potential sat in coffee shops& at Mum and baby groups!

The mums I know, who returned to work quickest were the self employed ones who could work as and when suited. Every other mum I know has had to alter their role/hours/location/employer or something to enable them to return. And they all returned to work much later than the self employed mums.

Why the contribution is important

New mums want to contribute to society and are fully capable of doing so!
