Child care assumptions

Policy assumes that childcare works all year round. Fails to realise that children become unwell and then cannot go to child care facilities in case they spread an illness. And children sometimes need to be home with parent /carer. It means that even if you have good childcare, in a 2 parent set up, likely to have to negotiate who can stay home to care or can pick up early if necessary. And you still have to pay for child care that you can't use. Child care can't do the after school activities such as competitive sports, arts or scouts. Again, parents and carers have to negotiate this so as to balance work and opportunities.

Why the contribution is important

Assumptions need to be reassessed and compared against the reality. Especially if you want a fairer and more resilient wales
